Amery
Motorsport geared-up for 2009 race season
Following two seasons, competing in the action-packed ELF Renault
Clio Cup, Amery Motorsport are now firmly established as one of
the leading teams in the championship.
2009 sees a three driver line-up, comprising; Amery Motorsport
regular David Shepherd, Dave Newsham who joined the team for the
last race in 2008, making a very impressive debut and competing
in the Winter series, notching-up his maiden win and two podium
finishes and completing the trio is Clio debutant Darren Wilson.
To further strengthen the team, experienced racer and ex-Clio Cup
star, Stephen Colbert joins as team coach, Steve Taylor and Ashley
Gelder both having touring car and Clio knowledge and join as race
technicians.
With testing already underway at various UK circuits, the drivers
and the team are both getting to grips with the new Michelin slick
tyres, to best understand the characteristics of the new tyre in
various track conditions.
As race team director, Martin Amery explained, “We
need to be competitive right from the start at Brands Hatch in
April. Whilst Darren is still on a learning curve, with the two
Dave’s we believe we have a great chance of winning races
and having a pop at the title”.
Auto Legal Protection will again be supporting the Amery Team for
the 2009 season after having a great 2008 season, entertaining
all their clients at the BTCC race weekends. Director Lee Riley
said, “It worked really well for us bringing along our clients
to the race weekends and meeting the Amery team and drivers. Getting
under the skin of a race team is a great experience for everyone
and we can’t wait for the start of this season”.
